Truck advertising has traditionally relied on a fairly limited vocabulary: mud, muscle and men.
Defeat Every Obstacle repositioned the Ford Ranger by telling the stories of real people whose strength came from intelligence, adaptability and the courage to change direction.
The hero film introduced Thailand’s first female Ford Ranger ambassador: a former graphic designer who left her career to lead her late father’s Chinese dragon-dance crew. It was a world built on physical power and precision, but her real challenge was stepping into leadership and carrying a family legacy forward.
A second film followed a man who left a well-paid corporate job in Bangkok to build a homestay and mushroom farm in northern Thailand with no experience, no guarantees, and quite a lot to learn.
My team and I shaped these journeys into a campaign about being both tough and smart. Putting a woman at the centre of a Thai truck campaign was not simply an unusual casting choice; it expanded the picture of who gets to represent strength.It remains one of the proudest firsts of my career.
Because obstacles rarely move for brute force alone. Sometimes the smartest way through is to redefine what tough looks like.
